Insurance policy checking & COIs
For independent agencies: issued policies checked against proposals line by line, and routine COI requests handled in minutes. Licensed staff make every coverage call.
The problem
Policy checking is hours of line-by-line comparison per commercial policy, so at busy agencies it gets sampled or skipped. Failure to procure requested coverage is a familiar source of E&O exposure for agencies.
COI requests take 8 to 15 CSR hours a week at a typical commercial agency: simple certificates take minutes, additional-insured ones much longer, and all of them interrupt other work.
Renewal remarketing means re-keying the same account data into carrier portal after carrier portal.
How the agent runs it
Check
Issued policies compare against the proposal and the expiring policy: limits, deductibles, endorsements, named insureds. Discrepancies are listed with references.
Issue certificates
Routine COI requests are parsed from email, verified against the active policy, and issued on the ACORD form.
Flag
Anything touching endorsement changes or coverage interpretation routes to licensed staff.
Prep renewals
Account data is compiled once for remarketing so nobody re-keys applications.
Human in the loop
Where your team stays in charge
Coverage advice and anything that could alter coverage stay with licensed producers. A wrong certificate is an E&O claim, which is exactly why the risky ones route to people.

Common questions on this workflow
Our agency management system is old and closed.
The usual case. We work through whatever access exists: API where possible, exports and email where not. The audit tells you which before you commit.
Can the agent bind coverage?
No. Binding and advising require a licensed producer in every state, and we build that boundary as a hard stop, not a setting.
